Originally built in 1918 as the Seattle Engineering School, the MarQueen Hotel is steeped in history, evolving from an early automotive training facility to residential apartments before becoming a hotel in 1998. Located in Seattle’s oldest neighborhood, the MarQueen draws travelers seeking authentic experiences rooted in character, charm, and a strong sense of place.
Inspired by the building’s layered past and Prohibition-era spirit, the guestrooms and public spaces were designed to feel warm, vintage, and residential. Rich burlwood finishes, warm wood tones, and bold textiles anchor the interiors, creating spaces that balance comfort with intrigue while reflecting the eclectic energy of the era.
Kimball Hospitality collaborated closely with Cusack + Co Design Studio to translate the design vision into hospitality-ready solutions. From early planning and material selection to multiple iterations of custom furniture details, the partnership focused on achieving the right balance of character and performance. Kimball Hospitality provided guidance on custom upholstery yardage, refined furniture proportions, and developed durable solutions such as a leather-look writing surface that delivers vintage appeal while meeting the demands of hotel use.
Functionality and guest comfort were thoughtfully integrated through model room testing, discreet power solutions, and durable construction methods that support daily operation while maintaining a residential feel. Accessibility considerations were also incorporated into the design, ensuring inclusive guestrooms without compromising the overall aesthetic.
The MarQueen Hotel offers a boutique hospitality experience defined by character, comfort, and collaboration, inviting guests to enjoy a warm, residential stay grounded in history and thoughtful design.
